NETWORKING FOR FREELANCERS

Work independently.
Build connections together.

A useful freelance network includes people who understand your work, bring skills you don’t offer, and know when an introduction could help. Start with a clear reason to meet.

TieSpark is a free beta for adults 18+. Sign up with your email in your browser.

CHOOSE YOUR PEOPLE

Three relationships worth building.

A peer to compare notes with

A fellow freelancer can understand the practical side of working independently. Bring a specific question, such as how to organize a project handoff, and offer a useful perspective in return. A peer conversation doesn’t need to become a sales call.

A collaborator for a defined project

A copywriter and designer could work on a launch together. Explain what you bring, what help you need, and whether there is a budget. Use a short project brief before discussing commitments.

A trusted referral partner

A photographer might meet a web designer whose clients need new imagery. Learn what a good fit looks like for both people, and get permission before making introductions. Follow the referral-partner guide to start carefully.

MAKE YOUR PROFILE SPECIFIC

Show what a connection could look like.

“Open to networking” leaves the other person to guess. Describe the work you do, the people you serve, and one kind of professional you would like to meet. Share public work you have permission to show.

Adapt this fictional profile example

I’m a freelance brand designer working with independent service businesses. I can offer identity design and feedback on visual consistency. I’d like to meet web developers and copywriters interested in discussing paid client projects. Happy to connect online; based in Pacific time.

On TieSpark, add your offered and requested skills, professional links, time zone, and whether you are happy to connect online. Keep private client details out of your profile. The clearer your scope, the easier it is for another member to decide whether your interests overlap.

FROM PROFILE TO CONVERSATION

Use TieSpark to make the introduction.

  1. 01

    Describe your goal.

Create an account, confirm your email, and complete your professional profile. Pick a concrete starting point: peer feedback, a complementary skill, or a potential referral relationship.

  2. 02

    Look for mutual interest.

Explore member profiles and choose who you’d like to meet. When both people connect, messaging opens. Available connections depend on who has joined and enabled discovery.

  3. 03

    Ask one useful question.

Mention something relevant from their profile, explain why you connected, and ask a question they can answer easily. If there is a fit, propose a meeting to discuss it further.

A SMALL FIRST STEP

Try a focused networking week.

  1. Choose one goal. For example: meet a developer who works with the same type of business you design for.
  2. Update your profile. Add a relevant work example and say what kind of conversation you welcome.
  3. Explore relevant communities. Look at professional groups, local events, and networking apps. Follow each community’s rules and avoid sending the same pitch to everyone.
  4. Start a conversation where there is interest. Use a collaborator introduction as a starting point, then personalize it.
  5. Review what you learned. Note who seems relevant and any next step you both agreed to. A useful conversation is progress even if no project follows immediately.

Before you join.

Is TieSpark a freelance job board?

No. TieSpark is for professional connections, mutual messaging, and meeting proposals. It does not provide a job marketplace, process project payments, or guarantee clients. You arrange any work directly with the other professional.

Can I network outside my city?

Yes. Indicate that you are happy to connect online, add your time zone, and discuss a suitable meeting time. You can also look for in-person connections where relevant members are available.

Do I need an invitation or a paid subscription?

No invitation is required. TieSpark’s current beta is free and open to adults 18+. Signup does not enroll you in a paid subscription.

Are the people I meet vetted by TieSpark?

TieSpark does not independently verify every member’s identity or qualifications. Review work examples and discuss responsibilities before making commitments. Read how TieSpark works for the connection flow and account controls.
